  • Rich and Hearty Lentil Stew

Winter is coming…will we ever start another cold season without those words? Heads up to George R.R. Martin challengers – your success hinges on a memeable one-liner that transcends internet cultures…go! Anyway, I don’t know what the characters of Game of Thrones ate during their endless winter, but I’m fairly certain it wasn’t lentil stew.
  • Vegan Alfredo Pasta

As a teenager, I was obsessed with Maggie’s 2 minute noodles. To be honest I still am, but I tend to avoid them due to their nutritional junk status (oh to be young and uninformed!).  I do, however, occasionally make them at festivals. I believe it’s ok to inhale a bowl of pure preservatives at festivals – it feeds your feel-good endorphins.
  • Veggie Braai Kebabs

April is one of my favourite times of the year in Cape Town. There’s no wind, the sunny days are mild to warm and there are lots of public holidays! Last Sunday was the most perfect day – it was even warm enough to sit in our pool. On days like this, if you are saffa, you must braai.
  • Vegan Shepherd’s Pie with Sweet Potato

I’ve been doing pretty well with my twice a week vegan dinners, thanks to some inspiring recipes and much appreciated time to make them. This shepherd’s pie was one of my first attempts and it is definitely going to become a dinner staple. The filling is made of lentils, mushrooms and a rather unexpected secret ingredient – oats!
  • Curried Beans & Chickpeas

You know those people on instagram who post pics of their perfect looking meals that makes you feel like you’re failing at life?  I’m not one of those people. In fact, I’m not really into food photography at all. Which is quite inconvenient, since I write a food blog. Give me an adorable pitbull or an epic view with a bottle of wine.
  • 4 Ingredient Date Balls

I don’t know about you guys, but I ran out of groceries and money somewhere around the 50th of January. I honestly don’t know how I managed to live in London for 8 Januaries. It’s hard enough over here with the sunshine and beaches, but add freezing grey weather to your dry salticrax and what is life – honestly, wtf is it!
  • Make brussels sprouts cool again

Much like ‘make America great again’, this headline at first seems as mythical as saddling up a unicorn and candy-mountaining off into the distance (I swear I’m not smoking anything – right now). But I feel the humble brussels sprout (that’s with an S, as it was first grown in…you guessed it, Brussels) gets a bad rap.
  • Grilled Corn Vegan Salad

A few weeks ago we had friends from the US visit us. He eats meat and she’s vegan – a change from the last time I saw her when she was a raw vegan! We had a good old saffa braai to welcome them and I was given the task of bringing a vegan salad.
  • Chocolate Brownie Overnight Oats

Oats are a big thing in my house. Mark eats them every morning – usually soaked overnight in yoghurt with nuts and berries added – and Lexi eats them cooked with peanut butter, cinnamon and a portion of fruit. I’m not really a sweet breakfast person…I can wake up and eat a spoon of Bovril. On its own.
  • Banana Peanut Butter Fridge Tart

I’ve written quite a few posts about having a baby, but not much about feeding one. Luckily whether I’m feeding myself or my daughter, it works out to pretty much the same menu – so don’t worry, this is not about to turn into a baby food blog! I have a very straightforward approach to to healthy eating.
  • Accidental Blondies

I was making brownies the other day and I got halfway through the recipe before realising I had no cacao powder. I did, however, have cacao nibs, so I made a few hasty adjustments and came out with Accidental Blondies – brownies that aren’t brown, but in this case have chocolate flavour from the nibs and dark choc chips.
  • Healthy Egg-Fried Rice

I’m super excited about this recipe! I love Asian food. I just love all things noodles – it’s why I consider 2 minute noodles a greater treat than chocolate – although let’s face it, chocolate is probably not as nutritionally devoid as 2 minute noodles. ‘Here Madame, enjoy this bowl of MSG with your Chardonnay.'
